Polk County Libertarians participated in Des Moines’ Juneteenth Neighbors’ Day on June 15, 2019. We asked people stopping by our booth to write a one-word description of what the day means to them.

President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, but on June 19, 1865, Texas announced it, as a state, would abolish slavery. Juneteenth is a celebration of that announcement.
