The Polk County Libertarians offer their sympathy to the family of the late Chief Justice of the Iowa Supreme Court, Mark Cady. Justice Cady believed all should have access to the courts and was a dedicated servant of the people of Iowa. Rest in peace, Chief Justice.
JOIN US FOR OUR HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
Our fundraiser this year will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2019, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Angry Goldfish Pub & Eatery, 2301 SW 9th, Des Moines.
UPCOMING EVENTS of the POLK COUNTY LIBERTARIANS
Our next Business Meeting will be Tuesday, November 26, 2019, 6:00-8:00 p.m., Urbandale Public Library, Urbandale. We seek to make our business meetings informational and a place to connect with fellow Libertarians, in addition to conducting necessary party business. We encourage you to join us.
Let’s Talk Liberty is an informal gathering and discussion. We had a very interesting conversation at our November 9th meeting on educational expenditures and the regimentation of the school / college curricula. We are taking a break in December, but will return in January 2020 with a look at the new Iowa legislative session.
2019 MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
Thank you to all who voted and thank you to Chase Holm (mayor), Marco Battaglia (at-large city council), and Toya Johnson (Ward 4 city council) for their campaigns in Des Moines. Thank you, also, to all who volunteered for and donated to the campaigns of the three registered Libertarians seeking office. We need that energy and participation as we head full force into the 2020 elections.
The Libertarian Party of Iowa has set caucuses for February 8, 2020, and the state convention for February 29, 2020. We will have an early state convention due to the passage of HF692 in the last legislative session. Candidates running under the designation of Libertarian for state offices must file their nominating papers by March 13, 2020, far earlier than in prior years.
We send out two email newsletters a month, and the occasional other email, to help keep voters and activists informed. We invite you to sign up and learn more about the Polk County Libertarian Party of Iowa.
